We were so excited to invite our play group over this morning for a very special breakfast gathering. We started by shopping for Jennie-O Turkey Sausage at Walmart. Walmart carries a full line of Jennie-O products, perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Turkey is lean and high in protein, making it a great addition to any entree.
These are the turkey breakfast sausage links we purchased. With 10 grams of protein per serving, these are a great part of any healthy breakfast!
We bought other ingredients to go with our breakfast, too, like organic milk, orange juice, cage-free eggs, and unbleached flour.
We had 8 children total – the girls put on cute aprons to cook with friends. They took turns helping to prepare a balanced breakfast: egg and sausage casserole, white wheat biscuits, and fruit salad. Here are the steps to make our Egg & Sausage Casserole:
- We began by cracking 10 eggs and mixing in about 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup diced red pepper, 1/2 cup diced onion, 12 cooked and diced Jennie-O turkey sausages, and a 1/4 cup of heavy cream. We buttered a 13″ x 9″ pan and poured the mixture in to cook for 30 minutes.
I pre-made some white wheat biscuit dough, and the children used fun cookie cutters to make different-shaped biscuits. I also placed a fruit salad on the table for them to nibble on while they helped prepare the food. When you get children in the kitchen to help you cook and you put a fun twist like using cookie cutters or colorful foods, children are so much more excited about trying new foods!
And this was our completed breakfast! We placed a piece of the casserole on a biscuit sliced in half to make a little sandwich. This would be great with other vegetables, too, like broccoli and asparagus.
The kids all sat at the table and ate together. To make things extra-fancy, we served some sparkling apple cider.
Eating a healthy breakfast prepares you and your children for the day. My children both love fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, and whole grains. We make different combinations of nutritious ingredients to provide them with energy for the day!

This looks like fun!
Didn’t know Jennie-O also had turkey sausage. I’ll have to try that. I’ll have to save this healthy idea for B week next year.
